Before Obsidian Betta Co. existed, I was simply a collector.
Like many people in this hobby, I'd spend hours searching through hundreds of Betta fish from breeders across the world. Every now and then, one would appear that made me stop scrolling.
Not because it was expensive.
Not because it was fashionable.
But because I knew I'd regret not owning it.
Those are the fish you'll find here.
The Curated Collection wasn't created as a marketing idea or another product category.
It exists because, long before Obsidian became a business, I was building a personal collection of fish that I believed were genuinely exceptional.
Every fish here has been chosen by me, for me.
Some represent bloodlines I believe deserve to be preserved. Some have the potential to influence future Obsidian breeding projects. Others are here for one simple reason...
I couldn't leave them behind.
If a fish makes it into the Curated Collection, it has already achieved something very few ever will.
It convinced me to buy it with absolutely no intention of selling it.
As Obsidian has grown, so has my collection.
Today, the business is expanding faster than I ever imagined. New bloodlines continue to emerge, breeding plans continue to evolve, and every month I discover fish that challenge what I thought was possible.
The reality is that no matter how much space I build, no one can keep everything.
A personal collection has to evolve.
Not because the fish become any less special.
Not because something better has replaced them.
But because making room for tomorrow's discoveries is part of being a collector.
That's why you'll occasionally find fish from my own collection available here.
Not because they were bought to be sold.
Because I believe someone else should have the opportunity to own a fish that was originally selected purely because I wanted it for myself.
Curated Collection
Fish within the Curated Collection are personally selected by Obsidian for exceptional quality, rarity or genetic significance. Most are acquired for our own collection and future breeding programme. While a small number are released for sale, they represent the highest standard available from Obsidian Betta Co.

No representative images.
No edited stock photographs.
No surprises.
The fish you choose is the fish you'll receive.
Each Betta is individually photographed, health assessed, conditioned and carefully packed before secure UK delivery.

Whether you're searching for a rare Samurai Betta, an exceptional Halfmoon, an outstanding breeding prospect or simply one fish that stands above the rest, the Curated Collection represents the very best Obsidian has to offer.
It will never be the largest collection in the UK.
It was never meant to be.
It exists to house the fish I believed were worth owning before anyone else had the chance.
If I decide to let one go, it's because I believe someone else should have the opportunity to own it too.
