Blue Red Butterfly Large-Fin HMPK Male Betta | WYSIWYG
The more Large-Fin HMPKs I bring into Obsidian, the more I’m convinced they hit an incredible sweet spot between the two traditional forms.
This boy is a particularly striking example.
His body carries an incredibly clean metallic royal-to-turquoise blue, transitioning sharply from the much darker navy head. Against that sits intensely saturated scarlet-red finnage, creating a colour combination that looks far more deliberate and refined than a typical multicolour Betta.
The caudal is where things get particularly interesting. Strong blue and pale radial streaking bursts outward from the base of the tail and cuts through the red, giving him that distinctive Butterfly-style expression.
And then there’s the size of those fins.
Although he is an HMPK (Halfmoon Plakat), he carries substantially more finnage than you would normally expect from a traditional short-fin Plakat. His broad caudal, oversized dorsal and deep anal fin give him much of the dramatic visual presence of a Halfmoon while retaining the active, inquisitive character that makes HMPKs so enjoyable to keep.
For me, these Large-Fin HMPKs are becoming a genuine sweet spot — big enough to properly show off, compact enough to remain seriously active.
An unusual form, a ridiculously strong colour combination and a seriously handsome Betta.
